Card of the Day
Nine of Pentacles
Deck: Wild Reflections Traot

Peace Is Part of the Harvest
I didn't post my Card of the Day on Wednesday.
I had pulled the Two of Cups and spent quite a bit of time sitting with it, but for some reason, I never felt called to share it.
Yesterday, I didn't touch my cards at all.
My energy had felt depleted for a couple of days, and rather than pushing myself to keep creating simply because I had created a routine around it, I allowed myself to step away.
Maybe I just needed the rest.
This morning, I returned to my cards, and I pulled the Nine of Pentacles.
There was something about this card that immediately felt like an exhale.
The Nine of Pentacles
Traditionally, the Nine of Pentacles represents abundance, independence, self-sufficiency, accomplishment, and enjoying the rewards of what we have worked hard to cultivate.
It is the garden after years of tending.
The harvest after planting the seeds.
The moment when we finally stop long enough to look around and recognize:
Something has grown here.
Although I think there's an important distinction within this card.
The Nine of Pentacles isn't simply about receiving some future reward for being good enough, working hard enough, or enduring long enough.
Sometimes the reward is recognizing what has already grown.
The wisdom.
The boundaries.
The self-respect.
The discernment.
The ability to walk away from what asks us to abandon ourselves.
The commitment to our own growth.
The peace that begins to develop when we stop settling for less than we know we're worth.
These things don't always arrive dramatically.
Sometimes we have been cultivating them so gradually that we don't recognize how much has changed until we finally look around at the garden.
Then we realize:
The flowers are already blooming.
You Cultivated This, But You Were Never Alone
One of the first messages I received while sitting with today's card was:
Look at what you have grown and cultivated.
There is personal responsibility within the Nine of Pentacles.
No one else can do our inner work for us.
No one else can make our choices, establish our boundaries, learn our lessons, tend our dreams, or decide what we will and will not accept within our lives.
We have to participate in our own becoming.
But independence does not have to mean isolation.
For those of us who understand our lives through a spiritual lens, we can acknowledge the work we have done while also recognizing the moments of guidance, synchronicity, love, intuition, and support that accompanied us along the way.
You can take responsibility for your own growth while still believing you have been guided.
You planted the seeds.
You tended the garden.
You listened when something within you said this way.
You kept going when you couldn't yet see what was growing.
Perhaps there were moments when you weren't as alone as you felt.
The Sunflowers Are Already Blooming
The imagery in this particular Nine of Pentacles differs from the traditional card in ways that immediately caught my attention.
Behind the woman stand enormous sunflowers.
Not seedlings.
Not buds waiting to open.
Full blooms.
That feels significant.
A sunflower begins as something small enough to hold between your fingers, yet given the right conditions, it can eventually tower over the person who planted it.
However, that transformation doesn't happen overnight.
There is a long period when much of the growth is gradual.
Roots establish themselves beneath the soil.
The stalk strengthens.
Leaves emerge.
The plant reaches toward the light.
Then eventually, what began as a tiny seed becomes impossible to overlook.
Our own growth can happen much the same way.
We may spend months or years changing internally before we see those changes reflected in our external lives.
We learn.
We heal.
We release.
We become more discerning.
We develop compassion for ourselves.
We stop abandoning ourselves to keep other people comfortable.
We begin choosing differently.
For a while, life around us may look remarkably similar, but that doesn't mean nothing is happening.
The inner harvest often comes first.
Eventually, what has changed within us begins to change what we are capable of creating, choosing, accepting, and receiving outside of ourselves.
Maybe that's when we begin to see the sunflowers.
Peace Is Part of the Harvest
In the traditional Nine of Pentacles, the woman is often depicted with a falcon perched on her gloved hand.
But there is no falcon here.
Instead, there are three mourning doves flying together, and the woman gently stretches her hand toward one of them.
When I look at her, it doesn't appear that she's releasing the dove.
It feels as though she is drawing it toward herself.
That changes the emotional quality of this card for me.
The falcon can bring forward ideas of discipline, mastery, focus, and control.
The dove carries a much softer energy.
Peace.
Love.
Gentleness.
Devotion.
Hope.
Stillness.
Maybe that is another kind of abundance.
We tend to think of abundance as something we can count.
Money.
Possessions.
Opportunities.
Achievements.
Recognition.
But what about waking up and feeling at home within yourself?
What about no longer needing to fight every battle?
What about trusting your own decisions?
Knowing your worth?
Being able to sit in stillness without immediately searching for the next thing you need to fix?
What about peace?
Maybe peace isn't simply what happens after we finally receive everything we've been working toward.
Maybe peace is part of the harvest itself.
Allowing Ourselves to Receive
There are seasons when our energy is almost entirely devoted to doing.
Surviving.
Healing.
Learning.
Releasing.
Rebuilding.
Setting boundaries.
Breaking patterns.
Starting again.
Tending seeds we aren't even sure will grow.
Then eventually, there may come another invitation.
Receive.
The woman in this card isn't chasing the dove.
She isn't reaching frantically toward it.
She simply opens her hand, and the dove comes toward her.
There is something beautiful in that image.
It could be that after all the work of becoming, we also have to learn how to receive what our growth has made room for.
Peace.
Love.
Healthy connection.
Opportunity.
Rest.
Joy.
Abundance.
Whatever form the harvest takes.
Sometimes receiving can be its own kind of practice.
We can become so accustomed to struggling that stillness feels unfamiliar.
So accustomed to surviving that peace makes us wonder what we're forgetting.
So accustomed to pursuing that we don't know what to do when something good begins moving toward us.
The Nine of Pentacles may remind us:
You don't have to chase everything that is meant to nourish you.
Sometimes you simply have to recognize that your hand is finally open enough to receive it.
When the Symbols Become Personal
Then this card became personal for me.
Sunflowers have always reminded me of my dad.
He grew them in his garden every year. Some would grow more than six feet tall, and we both loved them. I still have pictures of him standing in his garden beside those enormous sunflowers.
So I can't look at sunflowers without carrying some of that history into the image.
The mourning doves also hold their own meaning for me.
The morning I flew home to be by my dad's side as he was preparing to leave this life, I
received a beautiful dove feather while walking to the car to leave for the airport.
It became one of those moments I carried with me.
Then yesterday morning, on the very day I didn't touch my tarot cards, there was a large, beautiful mourning dove sitting in the birdbath in the flower garden at my aunt's house.
This morning, I pulled a card filled with my dad's sunflowers and a woman reaching toward a mourning dove.
I don't need to define exactly what those connections mean in order to honor what they brought forward in me.
Symbols become personal because we bring our own histories to them.
A sunflower may mean something completely different to you.
So might a dove.
But for me, both carry memories of my dad, love, connection, and moments I hold sacred.
As I looked at the woman standing among fully blooming sunflowers, gently drawing the dove toward herself, one thought became very clear:
Peace was not something she was chasing.
She was allowing it to come to her.
When the Inside Changes First
Another message came through strongly as I sat with this card:
A fresh beginning is coming. The difficult phase is ending, and peace is returning.
I felt those words in two ways.
Part of them felt like reassurance about what may be ahead.
Another part felt like recognition of something that has already happened within.
Sometimes our external circumstances take time to catch up with the changes we've made internally.
We may have already stopped accepting what once depleted us.
We may trust ourselves differently.
We may have developed stronger boundaries.
We may have become more compassionate toward ourselves.
We may finally understand our worth.
Yet, we're still waiting to see what life looks like from this new place.
Maybe that's part of the transition represented by today's Nine of Pentacles.
The inner harvest came first.
Now there is room to see what might grow externally because of what has already changed internally.
That doesn't mean difficulty will never visit us again.
It doesn't promise that everything ahead will be effortless.
It simply asks us to consider whether we're still seeing ourselves through the eyes of a
chapter we may have already outgrown.
Sometimes the new beginning isn't something that suddenly appears outside of us.
Sometimes it begins the moment we realize:
I am no longer who I was when this difficult chapter began.
How to Work With This Energy Today
Take a moment to look at what you have cultivated.
Not only what you still want.
Not only what hasn't happened yet.
Not only the distance between where you are and where you hope to be.
Look backward for a moment.
What do you handle differently now?
What do you no longer tolerate?
Where have you become softer?
Where have you become stronger?
What have you learned to trust?
What have you stopped chasing?
What part of you has quietly taken root while you were busy trying to survive?
Give yourself permission to acknowledge your own work.
Then ask whether you're ready to receive what that growth has made room for.
Because perhaps there are seasons for tending the garden.
Perhaps there are seasons when we are finally allowed to sit among the sunflowers.
Journal Prompt
What has already bloomed within me that I haven't given myself enough credit for?
Consider the growth that can't necessarily be measured from the outside; your boundaries, self-worth, compassion, discernment, courage, peace, or ability to trust yourself.
Then ask:
If my external life began reflecting the changes I've already made internally, what might look different?
Finally:
What am I ready to stop chasing and allow myself to receive?
Closing Reflection
The Nine of Pentacles reminds us that abundance isn't only about what we acquire.
Sometimes abundance is who we become while tending the garden.
It's the wisdom earned through experience.
The boundaries built through self-respect.
The commitment to keep growing.
The ability to recognize what no longer belongs.
The willingness to trust ourselves.
Then eventually, perhaps, the ability to rest.
Today's woman stands surrounded by enormous sunflowers that have already reached full bloom.
She doesn't need to convince them to grow.
She doesn't need to dig beneath the soil to check their roots.
She doesn't need to prove that she worked hard enough to deserve them.
They're blooming.
As she stands among them, she stretches out her hand toward a dove.
Not chasing.
Not grasping.
Simply making herself available to receive.
Maybe there comes a point in our growth when the invitation changes.
From striving to receiving.
From surviving to living.
From searching for peace to recognizing that peace has already begun growing within us.
Maybe, as the inside changes, we slowly begin to see the outside change too.
So today, the Nine of Pentacles asks us to look around.
Notice what you've grown.
Honor the work it took to get here.
Trust what has changed within you.
When peace begins moving toward you,
open your hand.
The garden has been tended.
The sunflowers are blooming.
Peace is part of the harvest.
Remember the wisdom within. 🌻🕊️✨
