The Well — XXII

The Well is not part of traditional tarot, but it is one of my favorite cards in the Ethereal Visions deck. It represents inspiration, creativity, opportunity, and the place within us where new ideas are born. It is a source of wisdom and possibility, a place we can return to when we are searching for something more.

I have always associated The Well with a wishing well. A place where we cast our hopes, dreams, and desires and then wait to see what becomes of them.

When I first looked at this card today, I felt a little of the Four of Cups energy. At first glance, she almost appears to be looking away from what is right in front of her. Although the longer I sat with the image, the more that feeling changed.

She isn't looking away.

She's looking toward something.

The swirling smoke around her began to feel almost like a smoke signal being sent toward the horizon. As though she has already made the wish, sent out the call, planted the idea, and now she is watching and waiting for something to appear.

Then there is the enormous tree behind her.

Trees don't grow overnight. They begin beneath the surface, taking root long before we can see what they will eventually become. To me, that adds another layer to the message. Whatever she is waiting for doesn't feel like a passing wish or something she has only recently begun calling into her life.

This has roots. It has been growing for some time.

Maybe this is something she has nurtured quietly. Something she has dreamed about, worked toward, or carried within her long before there was any evidence that it would become something more.

Now there is anticipation.

Something is on the horizon.

The phrases that came through for me were:

“What you wished for is on its way.”

“Brace yourself.”“She is ready.”

The Well reminds us that creation often begins long before we can see the result. There are seasons of dreaming, planting, rooting, and growing, and then there are seasons when what we have been nurturing finally begins to emerge.

How to Work With This Energy

Think about what you have already put into motion. What have you been nurturing, perhaps for much longer than you realize?

Instead of focusing only on when it will arrive, consider whether you are ready to receive what you have been asking for.

Keep tending to what inspires you. Trust what has already taken root. Keep your eyes on the horizon.

There is no need to chase every wish.

Sometimes we simply need to be ready when it arrives.

Journal Prompt

What have I been wishing for, creating, or nurturing for some time, and how have I grown into the person who is ready to receive it?

Remember the wisdom within.
