Strength (VIII)

The Quiet Assurance Within

Strength isn't always about how much we can endure. Sometimes, it's found in knowing ourselves, trusting our instincts, and having the courage to honor what feels right.

Traditionally, the Strength card represents courage, compassion, patience, self-love, and the ability to overcome our fears. We often associate strength with bravery, perseverance, and the determination to face life's challenges.

But sometimes, strength tells a much softer story.

In the Universal Celtic Tarot, we see the goddess Artio walking peacefully beside a bear.

Arctic is the Celtic goddess associated with bears and the natural world. She reminds us of the powerful connection between humanity and nature.

There is something beautiful about the peacefulness of this image.

She does not struggle to control the bear. She does not appear afraid of his power, nor does she feel the need to prove her own. Instead, they walk together, comfortable and at ease in each other's presence.

The bear itself is a beautiful symbol of strength. Powerful yet gentle, protective yet peaceful. It knows when to stand its ground, when to retreat, and when to simply rest.

Its strength is not defined by how often it uses its power, but by the natural wisdom of knowing when it is needed.

Perhaps there is something we can learn from this.

We often believe being strong means pushing through our fears, overcoming every obstacle, or proving that we can handle whatever life throws our way.

But as we grow, our understanding of strength can begin to change.

We discover that strength is also found in our awareness, the boundaries we create, and our willingness to trust our own instincts.

It's knowing when to stand firm and when to walk away. It's recognizing what brings us peace and what takes away from it. It's allowing ourselves to be gentle without believing that gentleness makes us weak.

Maybe most importantly, it's learning to trust ourselves enough to honor what we feel and what we need.

True strength doesn't always announce itself. Sometimes, it is the quiet confidence of knowing who we are and being at peace with that understanding.

Even the landscape surrounding Artio seems to reflect this message. The snow is beginning to melt, small flowers are emerging from the earth, and signs of spring are appearing.

Nature moves through its seasons, each bringing change, growth, and new beginnings.

There is beauty and purpose in every stage.

This could also be true for us.

As we move through life, we grow into different versions of ourselves. Our experiences shape our understanding, our awareness deepens, and we begin to recognize the strength that has been growing quietly inside.

We no longer feel the need to prove our strength. We begin to trust that it is simply always there.

When we find that peace and confidence within ourselves, it naturally begins to show in how we move through the world.

In the choices we make, the boundaries we honor, and the way we care for ourselves and others.

The greatest expression of strength may not be our ability to overcome everything life places before us, but the quiet assurance that we can meet whatever comes without losing ourselves.

Sometimes, strength is simply walking peacefully beside the bear.

✨ Today's Affirmation

I trust the strength that lives within me. I honor my boundaries, listen to my instincts, and move through life with courage, gentleness, and the quiet assurance that I am enough.

Remember the wisdom within
